Aquaculture Asia Magazine - annual subscription
Asia accounts for more than 92% of global aquaculture production by volume. Most of this comes from small-scale, family-operated farms of less than one hectare in size. Aquaculture Asia Magazine is unique in providing coverage of these small-scale production systems and the development issues affecting farmers and rural communities in Asia. The magazine contains articles on:
- Sustainable aquaculture.
- Research and farming techniques.
- Aquatic Animal health.
- Genetics and biodiversity.
- People in aquaculture.
- Marine finfish aquaculture.
Aquaculture Asia is published in greyscale four times per year, and is available through an annual subscription. ISSN 0859-600X.
US$ 50 + postage and handling for one year (4 issues).

A Practical guide to Feeds and Feed Management for Cultured Groupers
Farming of groupers (members of the Serranidae, subfamily Epinephelinae) is widely practiced in Asia. Groupers are carnivorous and consequently prefer feeds high in fish protein. Most farms in Asia still rely on what is commonly termed 'trash fish'. Despite the apparent abundance and availability of trash fish in many areas, there are some issues and problems related to its use in fish farming.
This guide explores new and better farming practices making use of formulated feeds, as well as technical aspects of feed storage and quality control, management of feeding including weaning of groupers onto formulated feeds and economic considerations.
The guide was developed as a result of a project supported by the Australian Centre for International Research (ACIAR). The experiences of the project have been synthesized to promote the use of formulated feeds; promote reduction in the use of trash fish in grouper aquaculture; and to assist farmers in making more efficient use of feeds and feed resources. 18 pages, ISBN 973-93053-1-0.
US$ 10 per copy + postage and handling.

A Guide to Small-scale Marine Finfish Hatchery Technology
Recent improvements in hatchery production technology for high-value marine finfish species such as groupers have led to an increased interest in setting up hatcheries to produce fingerlings for aquaculture. Small-scale hatcheries make this technology available to poor people in developing countries. Capital costs for small-scale hatcheries are relatively low, and the profitability of these ventures ensures rapid payback of capital investment.
This guide provides an outline of the requirements to establish a small-scale marine finfish hatchery, particularly the economic aspects. It is intended to provide sufficient information for potential investors to decide whether investment in such ventures is appropriate for them. The guide provides some basic technical information in order to give an indication of the level of technical expertise necessary to operate a small-scale marine finfish hatchery. However, it is not intended as a detailed technical guide to the operation of small-scale hatcheries. The guide was developed as part of a research project funded by the Australian Centre for International Research (ACIAR). 17 pages, ISBN 974-93053-2-9.

Manual on Application of Molecular Tools in Aquaculture and Inland Fisheries Management
This two-volume set is a practical manual for the generation and analysis of genetic data for genetic stock identification in inland fisheries and aquaculture. It provides a general background on genetics in relation to aquaculture and fisheries resource management, the techniques and relevant methods of data analysis that are commonly used to address questions relating to genetic resource characterisation and population genetic analyses. It does not address genetic improvement techniques e.g. selective breeding or producing genetically modified organisms (GMOs). The two volumes are:
- Part 1: Conceptual basis of population genetic approaches. Provides a basic foundation on genetics in general, and concepts of population genetics. Issues on the choices of molecular markers and project design are also discussed. 80 pages, ISBN 978-974-88246-1-1.
- Part 2: Laboratory protocols, data management and analysis. Provides step-by-step protocols of the most commonly used molecular genetic techniques utilised in population genetics and systematic studies. In addition, a brief discussion and explanation of how these data are managed and analysed is also included. 134 pages, ISBN 978-974-88246-2-8.
US$ 40 + postage and handling per set (2 volumes).
