Vice President, BoonSawang Farm
Mr. Jinnawat Mahalao, known as Guun, is an influential leader in Thailand’s aquaculture sector, serving as the Vice President of BoonSawang Farm — a prominent Asian seabass (barramundi) farm based in Bangpakong, Chachoengsao Province. As the second-generation manager, Jinnawat has been instrumental in enhancing the farm’s operations since he joined three years ago. Founded by his father, Suthi Mahalao, around 2014, BoonSawang Farm covers 31 hectares and produces about 700 tonnes of premium seabass each year. Under Jinnawat’s guidance, the farm has introduced advanced practices like juvenile grading and early weaning fingerlings onto pelleted feeds, leading to notable improvements in fish quality and growth performance.
BoonSawang Farm is widely recognised for producing seabass free from off-flavours — a common issue with pond-raised fish — making their products highly favored by premium restaurants and Japanese chefs in Bangkok for sashimi. The farm’s strong legacy is rooted in Suthi Mahalao’s pioneering work in Thai aquaculture, including inventing a grading bucket and advocating for the use of pelleted feeds, achievements that have earned him numerous awards and leadership roles. Dedicated to sustainable, chemical-free farming, BoonSawang Farm focuses on careful pond preparation, water quality management, and optimised feeding practices. Jinnawat’s commitment to innovation and excellence continues to position BoonSawang Farm as a leader in sustainable seabass farming across Asia.
Founder, BoonSawang Far
Mr. Suthi Mahalao is a trailblazing entrepreneur in Thailand’s aquaculture sector and the founder of Boonsawang Farm, located in Bangpakong, Chachoengsao Province. Over the past decade, his farm has consistently produced over 700 tonnes of premium Asian seabass each year across 31 hectares of earthen ponds. While pond-raised fish are often associated with off-flavours, prompting many to favor sea-cage farming, Suthi mastered pond management techniques that eliminate these issues, ensuring outstanding taste and texture.
Suthi's aquaculture career began in 1992 with shrimp farming and feed distribution. His first attempt at seabass farming in 1995 faced setbacks due to feed and management difficulties. However, after gathering insights from around 300 farmers over eight years, he returned to seabass farming in 2004, this time achieving sustained success. He is known for inventing the grading bucket, now widely used across Thailand, and for partnering with Thai Union Feedmill to pioneer the use of pellet feed tailored to seabass feeding behaviors. Suthi strongly advocates for manual feeding, carefully observing fish responses to adjust feed size and quantity, while steering clear of auto-feeders to avoid overfeeding.
As chairman of the Thai Marine Fish Farming Association and recipient of over 20 awards — including Best Fish Farmer at the 2017 Royal Ploughing Ceremony — Suthi has made lasting contributions to the industry. Boonsawang Farm also exports seabass fry internationally, helping to advance aquaculture across the region. Dedicated to sustainable and chemical-free practices, Suthi continues to champion knowledge-sharing and responsible fish farming.

Managing Director, Lukkungsetthi Company (LST)
Mr. Somprasong Natetip is the visionary Founder and Director of Lukkungsetthi Company (LST), located in Amphoe Ban Pho, Chachoengsao Province, Thailand. Since 2017, he has pioneered the commercial production of all-male giant freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) post larvae, addressing critical challenges in the Thai aquaculture industry, such as low survival rates, non-uniform sizes, and disease outbreaks. Under his leadership, LST became the only hatchery in Thailand consistently supplying high-quality, specific pathogen-free (SPF) all-male post larvae.
Driven by a mission for genetic improvement, Mr. Somprasong developed closed biosecure breeding systems (Pioneering Symbio-RAS system) to ensure pathogen-free, fast-growing prawns. Collaborating with Kasetsart University and leveraging neo-female technology, he successfully enhanced the Thai strain’s growth performance and survival rates. His commitment to innovation resulted in LST achieving a >90% male progeny success rate and increasing production capacity from 50 million to 300 million post larvae within just three years.
Beyond hatchery operations, Mr. Somprasong is focused on building a full-fledged genetic center, enhancing Thailand’s competitiveness in freshwater prawn farming. With plans for international export and continued R&D partnerships, he is shaping the future of sustainable aquaculture in the region, backed by a strong vision for quality, biosecurity, and growth.
