Shanghai Ocean University (SOU) is one of the most influential centers of rice-fish research and education in China, having developed rice-crab, crab-rice, and rice-carp farming models, which are now practiced in many areas of China with great economic and social success. 

The SOU Center for Ecological Aquaculture “Lancang-Mekong Rice-Fish Training Program” aims to help establish locally-adapted rice-fish farming models in Lancang-Mekong countries through collaboration to mitigate poverty, provide food security, meet the nutritional demands of local people, and educate local experts. 

The center will offer the training programme as an online course from 5-7 November. The course is free and will cover practical farming systems for the Lancang-Mekong region.

Eligibility

• Research interest related to rice-fish farming in the Lancang-Mekong River area.
• Aquaculture and hydrobiology related majors.
• Non-Chinese citizens: Nationals of riparian countries (Myanmar, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Thailand or Vietnam) will be given priority.

Further studies

In 2023 Shanghai Ocean University will offer full scholarships to outstanding international students who want to study a Ph.D program in the field of aquaculture. The participants of this program will have the chance to receive the prospective supervisor’s recommendation letter.
