Free training / call for applicants: 2026 Mariculture Technologies Workshop in Qingdao, China

The 2026 Belt and Road International Workshop on Mariculture Technologies will take place in Qingdao, China, from 19 October to 2 November 2026. The Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China hosts the event. The Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences and the Network of Aquaculture Centres in Asia-Pacific Secretariat organise it.

The workshop responds to the Blue Transformation, a strategic priority of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. It aims to share China's mariculture technologies, train professionals from Belt and Road partner countries, and support the sustainable development of their mariculture industries. The programme also seeks to help the regional blue economy upgrade and to advance United Nations Sustainable Development Goals on hunger, food security and nutrition.

Twenty participants are expected. The workshop is open to officials from fishery administrative authorities, along with researchers, managers and technical staff from educational, scientific and industrial institutions, companies and fishery-related international organisations in Belt and Road developing countries. Applicants need a bachelor's degree or equivalent, the ability to communicate in English, and good physical and mental health. Foreign residents and international students already in China are not eligible.

Training runs in English and combines thematic lectures, academic exchanges, hands-on technical training and field visits to aquaculture farms and companies. Topics cover genetic breeding of mariculture animals, new mariculture models and techniques, disease control and prevention, nutrition and feed technologies, and product safety and processing.

Registration is free. Participants cover their own international travel, while the organiser covers training, accommodation, meals and local transport during the workshop. Applicants submit an application form and a scanned passport bio-page to [email protected] by 8am Beijing time on 7 September 2026. Accepted participants receive email notification, followed by invitation letters from the Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China for visa and other procedures.
