Job opportunity: Inland Aquaculture Specialist (Pacific Community)

The Pacific Community (SPC) is seeking an experienced Inland Aquaculture Specialist to support sustainable aquaculture development across Pacific Island countries and territories. Working within SPC’s Fisheries, Aquaculture and Marine Ecosystems (FAME) division, this role provides technical advice, project leadership, and policy support to governments, communities, and the private sector.

The position focuses on strengthening inland (land-based) aquaculture systems to improve food security, economic development, and environmental sustainability. Key responsibilities include delivering technical assistance, supporting investment planning, advancing biosecure and climate-resilient aquaculture practices, and contributing to regional strategies such as the Pacific Regional Aquaculture Strategy (PRAS).

The role also involves cross-sector collaboration with regional and international partners (e.g. FAO, ACIAR, WOAH), supporting policy development, and enhancing knowledge-sharing across the Pacific.

This is a senior-level position requiring:

  • A relevant Master’s degree (or equivalent experience)
  • At least 8 years of hands-on inland aquaculture experience
  • Strong cross-cultural communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Experience working with Pacific governments and/or private sector systems

The role is offered on a 3-year contract, based in Suva (Fiji) or Port Vila (Vanuatu), with a competitive salary, international benefits, and travel opportunities across the region.
