Public Sector Regulatory Systems for Ecosystems Based Management of Aquaculture - a GAP Analysis Tool

This document presents a tool in the form of an audit table that can be used to broadly screen and identify gaps in the management systems of government agencies responsible for regulating aquaculture. These gaps, once identified, can be a first step toward building regulatory frameworks that can better deliver on jurisdictional ecologically sustainable development and ecosystems approach to aquaculture objectives. The end product of an assessment is a report for consideration by decision makers.

Report of the eleventh meeting of the Asia Regional Advisory Group on Aquatic Animal Health, 21-23 November 2012

The Asia Regional Advisory Group on Aquatic Animal Health meets annually to discuss regional health issues including emerging disease threats. This report includes a review of regional disease status circa 2012, global and regional disease reporting arrangements, global issues and standards, progress in implementation of the the Regional Technical Guidelines on Health management for the Responsible Movement of Live Aquatic Animals, identification and designation of regional aquatic animal health resources and regional and international cooperation.

Regional Consultation on the Sustainable Intensification of Aquaculture in Asia-Pacific

The objective of the consultation was to develop a regional strategic policy framework to guide national governments and regional organisations in promoting sustainable intensification of aquaculture in the Asia-Pacific region. The consultation also identified priority actions and, where possible, practical measures for their implementation, focussing on intensifying aquaculture through more efficient use of resources and environmentally sound practices rather than by increasing inputs to the system.

Regional proficiency testing program for aquatic animal disease diagnostic laboratories in Asia-Pacific

This is the report of the first workshop of the Regional proficiency testing program for aquatic animal disease diagnostic laboratories in Asia-Pacific, held from 25-26 July 2012 in Bangkok, Thailand. The objectives of the programme were to strengthen Asia’s regional capability to diagnose important aquatic animal diseases that impact on trade, train participating laboratory personnel in diagnostic standards and proficiency testing procedures, and to provide technical assistance to improve laboratory performance.

Emergency regional consultation on acute hepatopancreatic necrosis syndrome

An emerging disease known as acute hepatopancreatic necrosis syndrome has caused significant losses amongst shrimp farmers in China and Vietnam (2010), Malaysia (2011) and Thailand (2012). The disease affects both Penaeus monodon and P. vannamei. An emergency consultation was convened in Bangkok, 9-10 August 2012, to share information on this emerging disease, its occurrence, pathology and diagnosis, and to develop a coordinated regional response to the issue.

2012 progress reports of the NACA Regional Lead Centres

The recordings in this collection are the annual progress reports of NACA's regional lead centres in Thailand, China and the Philippines. The presentations were made at the 23rd NACA Governing Council Meeting, which was held in Siem Reap, 27-29 May 2011, hosted by the Government of Cambodia. The Governing Council is NACA's peak policy body, which meets annually to review the organisation's activities and set priorities for the year ahead.
