A free virtual seminar series will be held from 13-17 December, hosted by the Freshwater Fisheries Research Center, Chinese Academy of Fisheries Sciences, in partnership with NACA and the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. The seminar will be held via Zoom.

In recent years, under the influence of factors such as climatic drought, hydro-power and other water engineering developments, the ecological environment of the waters of the Mekong River Basin has undergone significant changes, which have affected aquatic life to varying degrees. A contradiction between economic development and ecological protection is gradually emerging. How to protect and sustainably utilize aquatic biodiversity is a problem that needs to be solved urgently.

The seminar is an activity under the Lancang-Mekong River Aquatic Biological Conservation and Fishery Cooperation Project. It will:

  • Give participants a background in aquatic resource conservation practices.
  • Recommend options for sustainable aquaculture farming systems with potential for intensification, with intervention strategies.
  • Build a communication and experience exchange platform for information dissemination and future collaboration.
