This video by Montakan Tamtin, Department of Fisheries, features two presentations from Thailand’s delegation to the 3rd High-Level Meeting on Aquaculture Transformation in Asia and the Pacific Region. The first showcases innovation and nature-based solutions in aquaculture via the IDRC-funded AQUADAPT Project; the second presents Thailand’s pilot initiative for low-carbon shrimp farming under an FAO Technical Cooperation Programme.
The first presentation highlights Thailand's national innovation efforts using nature-based solutions (NbS) to support sustainable aquaculture transformation. It features practical farm-level applications such as solar-powered snakehead rearing, IoT-based aeration systems, and integrated farming to enhance energy efficiency, environmental outcomes, and productivity. Key recommendations emphasise policy support, regional collaboration, and private sector engagement to scale green technologies and promote inclusive aquaculture across Thailand.
The second presentation outlines a pilot initiative under FAO’s Technical Cooperation Programme (TCP/THA/3903), promoting sustainable shrimp aquaculture practices at 30 farms in Chachoengsao and Chantaburi Provinces. Measures include renewable energy use, optimised feed and farm management, and development of carbon footprint certification tools. The project supports Thailand’s national targets for carbon neutrality and aims to reduce emissions, enable eco-labelling, and strengthen the market position of responsibly farmed shrimp.
